Little Turtle Flowage

A 640-acre marshland surrounded by grassland (big bluestem prairie - quite a rarity in the Northwoods) and edged by forest.

Directions: From Mercer travel northwest about one mile on Hwy. 51, turn south on Cty. FF about 1 mile, then south again on Popko Circle Rd. about 1 mile to Joe’s Shack Road. Take this road to the parking lot (bear right at the fork just before the lot); you’ll find gravel parking for about 30 cars.

Signature species: Trumpeter Swans, Bald Eagles, Osprey, and Sandhill Cranes.

Seasonality: Best is spring, summer and fall.
