Site Description<\/h3>\n

This site on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest features a large area of relatively unbroken northern hardwood forest interspersed with small, undeveloped lakes and spring ponds.\u00a0 Other habitat types include mixed hardwood-conifer forest and conifer swamp.\u00a0 The Pine River flows through the center of the site.\u00a0 The Whisker Lake Wilderness Area is included within this IBA.<\/p>\n

Ornithological Importance<\/h3>\n

Birds typical of northern hardwood communities, such as pileated woodpecker, Eastern wood-pewee, least flycatcher, black-throated blue warbler, ovenbird, and scarlet tanager are common or abundant breeders at this site.\u00a0 Conifers and wetter forests hold a diversity of other species, including golden-crowned kinglet, winter wren, Swainson\u2019s thrush, and Nashville warbler.<\/p>\n
