nine units of the Green Bay West Shores State Wildlife Area; a DOT mitigation site; a State Natural Area; a Brown County park; and a City of Green Bay park.\u00a0 These areas contain significant tracts of both open and forested wetlands, including emergent marsh, sedge meadow, shrub swamp, and lowland hardwood forest.\u00a0 The hardwood swamp found at County Line Swamp is particularly large, dominated by black ash.\u00a0 There also are some patches of upland hardwood forest.<\/p>\n<h3>Ornithological Importance<\/h3>\n<p>This is a significant wetland site for both migrating and breeding birds.\u00a0 High priority breeders include osprey, red-shouldered hawk, American black duck, American bittern, American woodcock, black-billed cuckoo, sedge wren, and golden-winged warbler.\u00a0 Waterfowl, shorebirds, and landbirds use the site extensively during migration.\u00a0 Waterbirds from breeding colonies elsewhere in Green Bay, including Caspian, common, and Forster\u2019s terns and American white pelicans, use this site for foraging.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-416-0-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-416-0-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<div id=\"attachment_417\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-417\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-417\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wisconsinbirds.org\/iba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/GreenBayWestShore-Howe.jpg\" alt=\"Green Bay West Shore Wetlands, photo by Robert Howe\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wisconsinbirds.org\/iba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/GreenBayWestShore-Howe.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.wisconsinbirds.org\/iba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/GreenBayWestShore-Howe-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Green Bay West Shore Wetlands, photo by Robert Howe<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Site Description This IBA consists of a series of sites along the west shore of Green Bay, including the County Line Swamp south of Peshtigo, owned by Marinette and Oconto County Forests;
