Deerskin Pine Forest by Bob Queen

Site Description

This area contains a mix of habitats, including upland northern hardwood forest, mixed coniferous-deciduous forest, red, white, and jack pine, spruce-fir, and swamp conifers.  Also present are shrublands, wetlands, lakes, and areas of open grassland and hay fields.

Ornithological Importance

The variety of habitats supports several different assemblages of breeding birds.  Priority species include bald eagle, spruce grouse, black-backed woodpecker, brown thrasher, golden-winged warbler, Cape May warbler, Connecticut warbler, and red crossbill.
