FLYING WILD
Flying WILD, the newest program of the Council for Environmental Education, introduces students in the upper elementary and middle school grades to bird conservation. This occurs through a standards-based classroom activity guide and through environmental stewardship projects. Flying WILD encourages schools and nature centers to work closely with conservation organizations, community groups, and businesses involved with birds to implement school bird festivals – events which students take a leading role in teaching their classmates and community about migratory birds.
A national network of urban-based City Partners provides educators with Flying WILD training and materials, including the program guide, Flying WILD: An Educator’s Guide to Celebrating Birds.
The Council for Environmental Education is a nationally recognized leader in environmental education, providing programs and services that promote responsible stewardship of natural resources.

Flying WILD is a program of the Council for Environmental Education, sponsored in Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology (WSO) and the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative (WBCI) Education Committee. The Program introduces students to bird conservation through standards-based classroom activities and environmental stewardship projects. The activity guide, "Flying WILD, an Educator’s Guide to Celebrating Birds," arms educators with well-organized activities for engaging students in learning through bird education. The guide is a sibling of Project WILD, one of the nation’s most popular environmental education activity guides.
Participants will receive a copy of the "Flying WILD Guide." The focus of the workshop will be for participants to learn how to use this guide, experience some of the activities, and learn about bird conservation issues. Participants will be engaged in fun, hands-on activities they can use in their classroom.
The presenters, Susan Schuller and Dr. Dennis Yockers, work at the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. They serve on the WBCI Education Committee promoting bird education efforts throughout the state.
